Hi, guys.

Any of you tried Windows 7? If not, well, you have got to try it. W7 have two features that I think makes it "The Client OS".
o
RAID 1 Support

RAID 1 or Mirrored Volume used to be native only on the Windows Server family. This means more reliable data storage on your PC. RAID 1, to those unfamiliar with the technology, enables you to have two hard drives sharing the same drive letter assignment and have the same content. When you save data, it gets written to both hard drives simultaneously. It's like looking at a mirror with you and your reflection on the mirror simultaneously doing the same act. The concept is that if one of the hard drives fail, you still would be able to work on your PC as if as you didn't have a hard drive failure at all. This is particularly useful when you use your PC for data storage at home or on a small office of less than 10 PCs (client OSes are hard coded to support only up to 10 concurrent connections).
o

Bitlocker "To Go"

Bitlocker when introduced with Windows Vista became more of a concept than practical since not many PCs were blessed with Bitlocker capable hardware although it is possible with a Registry tweak. W7 however is a 360-degree turn around. W7 comes with Bitlocker To Go; a feature that enables you apply Bitlocker on a USB flash drive. Here's a short demo from the TechNet SpringBoard Series.

Out of the box, W7 offers more apart from the fact that you can install it on a PC with 512MB RAM and 866Mhz CPU (tried it on an old Intel Celeron PC).

Another experience worth sharing is that I was able to install W7 on a USB drive. Read all about it here.

I know it's still in beta stage, but do guys think it's worth installing as promary OS in my HP txz2 multitouch laptop?

For those who have tested it, What are the caveats if any?

Anybody have an opinion on why Microsoft allowed Windows 7 beta version to proliferate around the net through the not so usual means (e.g. torrent, P2P).  Or is it virtually impossible to stop software piracy at this day and age?

You're right! its like the Windows VISTA when it first came up, most of the hardware drivers and applications are not supported. So keep exploring and reading about W7. Maybe it can be stable after a few months.

I have a running love-hate relationship with al things Microsoft but I have to admit that Windows 7 *may* be Microsoft's best move in the consumer/end-user space.  I just hope that Microsoft maintains it well and not allow it to become another nest of malware (conficker anyone?).
