But I decided that we should have one anyway. So I contacted Microsoft Philippines’ Windows Desktop product manager Liezl Milan and asked if Micrtosoft Philippines could sponsor one if I offered to host one.

So we’re on! With the help of the Windows users group, we’ll have one at the Microsoft Office on launch day itself… October 22nd! :) Wohoo! Room capacity is only 200. So let’s see how many we can muster.

Details and registration here:

https://www.clicktoattend.com/invitation.aspx?code=142185

I’ll post pictures after!

Windows 7 review from the Supersite for Windows

A while back I wanted to start writing my own review for Windows 7. Then after a while I was thinking, why reinvent the wheel? The net is full of really great reviews and great resources for Windows 7.

My personal favorite site is the Supersite for Windows by Paul Thurrot.

Below is a link to Paul’s Windows 7 reviews. My home desktop is using a Microsoft keyboard. And my 2 webcams are Microsoft branded as well.

When I installed Windows 7, I just plugged in all of my devices (without special drivers) and everything seemed work fine… from a generic point of view. My mice did their job just as expected. But when install the special utilities from MS.COM, all the devices come alive with value-added features which you could not take advantage of unless you installed these special utilities.

Microsoft has recently released all updated versions (I was using them even while on Beta).

Visit: http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/windows7/support.mspx

Not on Microsoft hardware?

My advise is, be sure to check your manufacturer’s website to see if they have special Windows 7 utilities available… you never know.

So what’s new with Windows 7

One of the most frequent questions I get about Windows 7 these days is… “So, what’s new with Windows 7 that I don’t get in Windows XP?” Sometimes its fun trying to rattle of all the new and wonderful things are in Windows 7… other days it gets to be a drag. No matter how great Windows 7 is, you come up against die hard Windows XP fans… some of them so disgusted Windows Vista.

Finally found a page buried deep in the Windows 7 website on Microsoft.com – yeah, I don’t know why it was so hard to find – that best puts the comparison in a nice comprehensive chart.

Check out the side by side comparison

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/compare

Windows 7 Commercial… so very cute

So Cute!

Windows 7 coming to a school near you!

Microsoft Philippines’ DPE Team will be going around schools showcasing Windows 7 the next few months.

Check out http://msacadph.com/ for more details.

The next school could be yours :)

What is the difference between Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware?

People get confused between Viruses and Spyware. There are also differences between Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware applications... though some apps tackle both.

While poking around on the internet, I came across an interesting article describing this.

http://www.webopedia.com/DidYouKnow/Internet/2008/antivirus_antispyware.asp

Personalize your Windows 7 experience… for FREE!

Personalize your Windows 7 with Themes, Wallpapers, and Gadgets… for FREE.

http://www.winsupersite.com/win7/

MSFORUMS.PH is now back up!

Once again, I don’t know what is going in the back end. It’s lightweight! and… its FREE. Let me say that again… FREE.

I was going to write a review for this. But I think Paul Thurorrott’s review on MSE is quite comprehensive. So why re-invent the wheel?

So here is a great review of Microsoft Security Essentials (here)
