I guess this is sort of like TweakUI for Windows 7. Well… sort of but not quite.

Now, why does Microsoft even have something like this, and why is it kept secret? What is this in the first place, is it an alternate shortcut to Control Panel?

On October 22, 2009… as with the worldwide launch of Windows 7, I hosted a Windows 7 House Party… ok, not quite in a house, it was done in Microsoft Philippines with the support of Windows product manager, Liezl Milan. Along with my cohost Chay Saputil and the Philippine Windows Users Group.

We had around 240 attendees.

Windows 7 Community Launch Party!!!

I tried to register to host my own Windows 7 House Party, but sadly the Philvippines is not of the countries included in the House Party list. But I decided that we should have one anyway. So I contacted Microsoft Philippines’ Windows Desktop product manager Liezl Milan and asked if Micrtosoft Philippines could sponsor one if I offered to host one.

So we’re on! With the help of the Windows users group, we’ll have one at the Microsoft Office on launch day itself… October 22nd! :) Wohoo! Room capacity is only 200. So let’s see how many we can muster.

Windows 7 review from the Supersite for Windows

A while back I wanted to start writing my own review for Windows 7. Then after a while I was thinking, why reinvent the wheel? The net is full of really great reviews and great resources for Windows 7.

Microsoft Hardware and Windows 7

All of my mice are Microsoft branded. My home desktop is using a Microsoft keyboard. And my 2 webcams are Microsoft branded as well.

When I installed Windows 7, I just plugged in all of my devices (without special drivers) and everything seemed work fine… from a generic point of view. My mice did their job just as expected. But when install the special utilities from MS.COM, all the devices come alive with value-added features which you could not take advantage of unless you installed these special utilities.

Microsoft has recently released all updated versions (I was using them even while on Beta).

My advise is, be sure to check your manufacturer’s website to see if they have special Windows 7 utilities available… you never know.

One of the most frequent questions I get about Windows 7 these days is… “So, what’s new with Windows 7 that I don’t get in Windows XP?” Sometimes its fun trying to rattle of all the new and wonderful things are in Windows 7… other days it gets to be a drag. No matter how great Windows 7 is, you come up against die hard Windows XP fans… some of them so disgusted Windows Vista.

Finally found a page buried deep in the Windows 7 website on Microsoft.com – yeah, I don’t know why it was so hard to find – that best puts the comparison in a nice comprehensive chart.

What is the difference between Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware?

People get confused between Viruses and Spyware. For me, it all falls under the category of Malware... Malicious Software.

But I understand when people get confused. There are also differences between Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware applications... though some apps tackle both.

Microsoft Security Essentials released!

After using the beta of Microsoft Security Essentials for the past few months, Microsoft has finally released the final code of Microsoft Security Essentials and has revamped the MSE website with fresh content at: http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/

It’s great! It’s lightweight! and… its FREE. Let me say that again… FREE.

I was going to write a review for this. But I think Paul Thurorrott’s review on MSE is quite comprehensive. So why re-invent the wheel?
